YVT announces new partnership with TD Bank and Business for the Arts for Music Scholarships

Shannon Charnock, General Manager of Young Voices Toronto (YVT) is thrilled to announce a new, exciting partnership with TD Bank Group this season, and the creation of the TD Music Scholars program. This program subsidizes the cost of 2017-18 choir tuition for new and returning choristers, who demonstrate high artistic merit and financial need.

“Our partnership with TD allows us to ensure all children can create lasting friendships and experience world-class music making, regardless of their backgrounds, circumstances and financial situation,” said Maria Conkey, YVT’s Artistic Director.

This initiative has been made possible by funding from TD. TD is respected nationally for its support of music programming, notably the TD Jazz Festival. It also supports music access and education programs for youth, and currently supports over 100 such programs, including YVT.

“At TD, we believe that one of the best ways we can contribute to our communities is by investing in music, access to music, and music education,” said Todd Murray, Manager of Community Banking at TD.

The TD Music Scholars program is also made possible by matching funding from the Business for the Arts (BftA) artsVest program. ArtsVest is a nation-wide sponsorship training program for arts organizations. The training and mentorship participating organizations receive enables them to diversify their revenue streams, improve their financial position, and build connections with community businesses.

“The artsVest program at Business for the Arts is proud to support partnerships such as (YVT and TD) that strengthen ties between the business community and the arts sector in Toronto,” said Scott Honsberger, artsVest Toronto Program Manager. “By providing training and matching funds, we aim to help arts organizations like Young Voices Toronto continue to grow, flourish, and positively contribute to the cultural fabric of our city.”

Children ages 4-18 who love to sing and demonstrate financial need are welcome to apply for a TD Music Scholarship. All applicants must complete both an audition and an application to be considered. Email Shannon Charnock, General Manager, at manager@youngvoicestoronto.com for more information.
